What do you do at NVL?
I am a Trainee Foreman and at NVL we mainly transform properties by doing different construction work and gardening.
What apprenticeship are you doing and why?
I am doing a Level 3 Horticulture - Landscape Construction apprenticeship as it seemed to be the next logical step when thinking about climbing up the career ladder.
How does NVL support you with your apprenticeship?
NVL Management and Senior Foremen have an extensive knowledge of landscaping and construction. If I get stuck or have questions, I know I can always ask someone for help and will get a qualified answer which helps a lot.
What do you love about landscaping?
That it offers such a wide variety of tasks. I especially love all things construction related, like timber work such as building decks and fences. It is also great that this job offers the opportunity to be outside a lot which I really enjoy.
What do people not realise about landscaping?
That landscaping includes much more than just gardening. We do a lot of timber work, complete transformations of a property and even pool construction can be a part of landscaping.
Favourite project you worked on and why?
A job in the Abel Tasman where we got to go on site for a few days and work together with Nigel. The job involved a bit of everything from construction to planting. It was a great experience being somewhere else and working away for a while.
Best thing about NVL?
The culture that has been created by Nigel and the Management. It is a very supportive environment to work in.
